Another Birthday!!

On October 4, 1957, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, under the sign of "the scales", I came into this world.  The eyes of the world were on the "October Sky" and the launch of the Soviet Sputnik.  Truly, I am a child of the "space age"!

Birthdays figure prominantly on the cancer journey.  They are times to take stock and celebrate life.  I had a life-saving liver resection done on my birthday in 2004!  What a treat that was!   On my birthday in 2007 I received the news that I was NED (No Evidence of Disease) after a recurrence, "radiofrequency ablation", and 4 months of chemo.  It was definitely a day to celebrate.  And now, in 2009, I find myself with another set-back and in the midst of radiation treatment!  This is the 6th birthday I have celebrated since being diagnosed in August 2004.

So this year the girls have decided to throw a party for me.  YEAH.  We'll gather at our local "watering hole" on English Bay to enjoy the evening sunset in the company of some good friends and some good cheer.   CANCER BE DAMNED!

Yes, we're going to a party, party!  Rob; in Vancouver
